!-Note-! -The strange hype that surrounded the loss of a blade on a Lincolnshire wind-turbine in the east of England at the start of 2009 has been apparently solved. The Sun tabloid and British TV outlets spent several days asking if some sort of flying object had struct the turbine and limped off. Nick Pope even made sure someone took the located blade away for a decent forensic style examination.
At the time, those of us that played down the incident found the label of 'de-bunker' being liberally applied. Now that was a new situation. I personally thought that any non-terrestrial visitors that hadn't learned to avoid giant wind-mills wouldn't have been worth communicating with anyway. It's also a bit of an insult - if they were going to wreck something - crash into an oil rig not the equipment us terrans are trying to go a little greener with. There again I could actually see the logic of ETs hitting the turbine as a symbolic gesture... given that we have power generating systems that go way beyond wind and wave but they seem to stay closetted for various reasons we've discussed at length elsewhere.
Proving that metal fatigue was indeed the cause however still doesn't account for the many strange lights seen for days around the event. There could be a link there somewhere still.
EXTRA terrestrial activity has been ruled out as the cause of bizarre damage to a Lincolnshire wind turbine.
Forensic tests have proved a failed bolt is the reason behind the broken blade at the wind turbine at Conisholme, near Louth.
At the time, the damage was linked to the sighting of strange lights over Alkborough.
Fatigue in the material around the bolts is thought to be what caused the strange damage.
The story caused a national storm after the story of the wind turbine
and the mysterious unexplained lights was broken in the Scunthorpe
Telegraph and made the front page of The Sun.Click here!
On the BBC’s website, it was one of the most read stories and it was a hot topic on Radio Four’s Today programme.
The story was also taken up by Sky News and discussed on ITV’s Loose Women.
As the Scunthorpe Telegraph reported Lesley Whittingham (71), from
Jerusalem Cottages, Alkborourgh, described seeing bright orange and
yellow tints in the air.
Mrs Whittingham, along with her husband Frank (78) had watched the
stationary object for five minutes before it mysteriously disappeared.
Louth resident Dorothy Willows, who lives just half a mile from the
windfarm, was in her car when she saw ’strange lights’ in the sky.
She was among dozens who spotted the mysterious flashing orangey-yellow spheres.
Hours later there was an almighty smash.
Afterwards one blade had been ripped off and had totally vanished, while another was left twisted and useless.

I'm after the local TV footage on this by BBC Look East - if anyone has it I'd appreciate you letting me know and I'll happily pay any costs in getting it to me etc. Thanks.
