The crossing of space may do much to turn men's minds outwards and away from their present tribal squabbles.

Which Reality Do You Prefer? Uk Skeptics Interview PDF Print E-mail
Written by davID

exopoliticsuk, exopolitics

Bad Psychics and their associated popular R.I. Podcasting arm got in touch and asked for an introduction to what the exopolitics community is all about. So in episode 22, one I'm pleased to say adjacent to British biologist Rupert Sheldrake, David Griffin obliged and took the usual questions from skeptical enquirers.

!-New-! Responses and video evidence added to issues raised in interview.

:: Read More or scroll down for the full part one audio stream ::

As skeptics go -  this lot are friendly enough and in fact there's a good chance that behind the facade of many contemporary skeptics is someone pretty interested in the wider scheme of reality... they just take a different route to the rest of us.

One point needs making when you look at their chosen use language: exopolitics is neither based in the 'esoteric' nor is it linked to the supernatural. These are real issues with a full data-set.

Ultimately we could suggest that it's all about choice - reality is to an extent plastic and self-generated: what do you want to be your dominant reality?? A dull, Newtonian universe where everything can be explained by pseudo logical steps or one that involves embracing mystery? As we discussed - the UFO issue is not something final or 'out-there' -  it's central to us as human beings and is a developing part of the core evolutionary story.

Interview October 2009 -  UK Skeptics and Exopolitics Update - Also with Nick Pope's extra interview

Download a copy of the main discussion RIPodcast-Exouk

Skip to 30 mins or so in for the actual interview and to avoid Skeptic banter.

Response to points raised... see comments.

- Point of contention #1: Lazar was employed [contrary to the RI Podcast presenters' views] on Edward Teller 's say so at S4 or Area51.

Bob Lazar Story #1

Bob Lazar Story #2

Bob Lazar Story #3

- Point of contention #2:  Trystan from the RI podcast claimed in the Exopolitics interview that Jim came up with the symbols *after* hypnosis... this is false as you will see:

Sgt Jim Penniston discusses his military notebook and symbols made at the time whilst observing the craft on the ground which was within touching distance.

Note the phrase from Jim's own mouth saying "I was walking around the craft taking these notes...". I think that's enough proof.

You should also ask yourself that if skeptics can be *so* sure of points of evidence that turn out to be wholly wrong -  what does this say about their wider methodology??!

The interview has received the expected, usual comments on their feedback section under the interview itself. I've responsed to some points elsewhere - http://parafort.com/ri/?p=375

For example :

"David Griffin is obviously pretty intelligent, but he needs a hefty dose of incredulity. I enjoyed the moment he managed to reference Gödel’s incompleteness theorem, an original angle I’ve never heard a UFOlogist use before. It is however completely irrelevant as it only pertains to mathematical proofs, not scientific evidence."

- He's never heard a UFOlogist use Godel's theorem before in this context??! Well this was EXACTLY the area that Godel would have been proud to see his idea at work I reckon.

Godel said that was within a certain framework of exploration or experiment - "truth" can never be located as a static 'result'. It's relevant to the observer of the phenomena. Instead truth is just "true within it's own terms" or as Terence McKenna said so well - something can be "true ENOUGH".

The Skeptics  want a truth they will never find - the UFO is part of the mystery of what is means to be human. You will never have the kitchen sink from a saucer placed in front of you :)

Far from being desperate, I was simply referring to the consensus of scientific opinion. Hypnotic regression has been largely discredited by the American Psychological Association. The Australian Psychological Society have said 'The available scientific and clinical evidence does not allow accurate, inaccurate, and fabricated memories to be distinguished in the absence of independent corroboration.' The unreliability of hypnotic regression to uncover memories has been shown in the most damaging fashion at sites such as http://www.bfms.org.uk

Bryan - how do you KNOW Penniston wrote his notes at the time beyond faith? They clash with his original statement. And what about the inconsistency with the location of the landing site? Why did it take so long to surface? I trust you see why I have doubts?

Anyhow, this is my last posting on the subject. Second part of David's interview is now up as part of Unlucky Dip #3 at www.ripodcast.co.uk (as well as some stuff from Nick Pope).

You were right about Jim Penniston - I did not have to go and see the videos you added as it's always been known that he wrote those down At THE TIME.

Skeptics ALWAYS use the hypnosis is unreliable pitch then they're getting desperate :))))

OK - I've added videos that deal with just two of the points we did not agree on during the discussion.

One of the disputes in the interview is that I claimed both Col Phil Corso and Bob Lazar's stories were true and had been validated over the years...

At the start of this clip father of the H-Bomb Ed Teller refuses to deny knowing Lazar - I call that a nod to authenticity...

...cont: supernatural or esoteric. In the skeptics reality testimony counts for little, neither does adopting new ways of processing and filtering data. I say futile as your [the wider 'you'!] approach seems to always want to get issue X into a lab and test it until you're happy there is a solid 3D object there for you to touch. This approach no longer works in isolation. High strangeness demands novel approaches in evaluation, not junior school rulers and compasses.

The fact the UFO issue is the most freq. searched topic online after pr0n tells us there is something going on. I like the role you and yours perform but I fear with this issue esp you are carving out your own extinction by remaining as rigid as you do on the basics. This inability to shift or adapt *is* futile.

However, as I said on f/book - you were a far more tolerant and humorous Skeptical crew than most and I enjoyed the time we spent. On the Jim Penniston issue - I'll prove it :) - Watch this space...

Trystan - glad you popped by to take a peek at things. I've listened to your Sheldrake interview a few times now and it was good to hear him in that context.

Re comments: Really you should see my facebook comments after I posted it there also.as that was up sooner than the one here and had a fuller, balanced review to the whole interview and skepticism as a reality. I mentioned there how 'good' skeptics can contribute to evolving a debate instead of holding it back as many ppl tend to see you doing.

The 'futile' comment needed a context and this comments board isn't the best place!! However - I think that certainly with re to the UFO issue your firm stance *against* it being a tangible phenomenon is these days so wide of the mark you are making yourselves irrelevant in my opinion.

See you may not create a dichotomy between the whole "psychics" [cold reading etc] field and exopolitics or the wider UFO/ET issue but we see nothing that makes the field 'supern
4"Evidence - or lack of"

Hi, thanks for the comments. I still beg to differ over Larry Warren and the Jim Penniston notebook.

In regard to questions, no good interview ever sticks to set questions. We had some, but by no means were all from the cribsheet. Sometimes they get raised as a direct result of the conversation.

David, I'm a little surprised you view the skeptical approach as 'futile'. I don't think that's helpful as it misses the point. We are interested in evidence and as such exopolitics isn't complex. To suggest we should just accept the reality of exopolitics with nothing but anecdotal evidence is bad reasoning. I guess we should believe in Zeus because so many people used to! To take your reasoning to its conclusion then we must believe in Zeus, Allah, God, ghosts, dragons etc because at one point there was lots of anecdotal evidence for their existence. We don't say that aliens do not exist, but until there is solid evidence we doubt their presence.
All the best

There's no point engaging with these people - they are never going to shift an inch on how they perceive the issue. If you hear the discussions before your interview and after you can realise this.

Hi JAG - thanks for feedback... I don't know whether it's the done thing to get a list of questions. The only one that really threw me was them asking about direct Alien technology exchanges. But you live and learn.

Don't forget that unless you are looking at over and hours unedited discussion - you don't get to do the FULL replies that are needed to qualify this complex area.

Also - I think most people would have refused to be interviewed by a bunch like this but I think it's all bridge-building. After all it shows the futility of their stance. We only have to be right once.

PS: Trystan [main interviewer] *was* wrong on Jim Penniston and the military notebook in which he made symbols. He was also wrong on Larry Warren not being present. Larry has always said he was there on night 3.

good interview! Pity the skeptic pack couldn't allow you to make some decent responses before they started mauling you and playing the semantic game. As you eloquently put it above, it's a co-creational dimension of mystery. The need to endlessly prove all facets of the phenomenon using repeatable forms of evidence does nothing to advance the import of the experience, as felt and seen.

Some of us, being touched by the mystery, are equally skeptical and want to challenge all assumptions to see the truth beneath, in its rawest form.

In order to see the truth, one must be open and as you say in the interview, appreciate when something's "true enough", in order to plumb the deeper dimensions of being and appreception of the phenomenon.

bravo DavID!

(but next time, maybe get the questions written down before hand, so you've got at least a sporting chance of full reply, eh?)
